The credentialization pattern is not a distortion of the AI ethics conversation — it is now the conversation's dominant form. Course promotions, program completions, and continuing education advertisements occupy the same feeds where substantive argument once ran. The mechanism is self-reinforcing: platforms reward visible participation, and certificates are the most efficiently visible form of participation. An actual normative claim — about who should control AI systems, about what harms require redress — requires taking a position that can be contested. A completion certificate requires nothing except enrollment.
