How people talked about xAI
What people ask for is specific, and they ask it of a company rather than a product. The subscriber says they stay on the cheaper plan because there is no way they would pay for Heavy, and they want xAI to build something in between. That is a request to a seller, and it assumes the plan menu is a choice someone made. It is also loyalty with a missing rung on the ladder, and the missing rung is the company's to build. A commenter in an argument about changed limits made the same assumption more bluntly: if Grok is poor, the company has to "bare the burden or fix the model."
Some of the complaints are about manner rather than price. One commenter pointed out that Grok's makers have a Discord, several accounts on X and a subreddit, "and yet communication is worse than ever," and that the few researchers people can reach on X "don't have the power to do much." Being visible and being reachable are different things, and the complaint is about the second. The other complaint is about respect: a user who found a lot of their created content published, though they never shared any, wrote that "xAI has done things that doesn't respect the user."

A Bluesky post recounted that someone in power had asked Grok how a country's people would react if its president were captured and that Grok, "in classic AI sycophantic fashion, told him what he wanted to hear." To cite what a chatbot told someone in power is to raise a question for whoever runs it. A Reddit commenter pressed the same point from the other side, writing that "No benchmark that rates Grok high in any way is reliable."
Not every conversation about Grok is a grievance. People place it as the one they talk to: a YouTube commenter wrote that "Grok voice has been my go-to," keeping GPT and Claude for building, and a Reddit commenter sorted their tools into Chat for research, Claude for code and research, and Grok as "by far the best for talking to for advice." Both uses are about conversation rather than output: a voice to talk with, a source of advice. That role makes Grok a presence rather than a utility, and presences get addressed. A presence is held to a closer standard than a tool, and its maker answers for how it behaves.
Some of what people say about drifting away from Grok isn't addressed to xAI. A Reddit commenter looking for writing help said Grok "really was goated" for scenarios and descriptions, but that it "feels like it gives me the same descriptions everytime." That grievance names no company to answer for it, and it reads like a goodbye. Another commenter said the time they used to "enjoy derping with Grok" has given way to a short visit to the forum.
The smallest complaint says the most. A user objecting that moderated images shouldn't count against credit or weekly usage addressed Grok directly, "Hey Grok," and ended with "Please fix this." The request was written to the chatbot but reads like a request to the company, which is how a product comes to stand in for its maker. For xAI, that means each limit, refusal or silence arrives as a message from the company.
