How people talked about Claude
What the people around Claude describe is a collaborator to be managed. They plan around how long it thinks, work out what to do about how it addresses them, and keep notes for what it forgets. Reddit and Bluesky both drew more people to Claude than the week before.
Delay is the plainest example. One person calls responsive mode "just Claude saying" it is on the job "before pulling a five-minute thinking marathon", and in their telling the mode named for responsiveness is the one that makes them wait. Another, summarizing a test of effort settings, finds that "higher effort doesn't always give better results", and that the trouble is more than the extra cost: models start to overthink at different effort levels. Both treat thinking time as something to be managed, not as a sign of quality.
Tone is the next complaint, and it is about posture rather than output. One person writes that Fable 5.1 "is as bad with preaching as Opus 5". The line is brief, but it treats a model's moralizing as a fault that carries over from one version to the next. Another, who builds tools for a charity, has noticed Claude closing an answer with "oh just one more thing" that "seems to negate or throw into question everything it's just said or done". Both are complaints about how Claude addresses the reader.
Not everyone counts the pushback as a flaw. In their account the fix was theirs to make, since what changed was the skill they wrote for the model, not the model.
At work, the same manner meets a different test. An agile coach at a large technology company says Claude does in minutes, "for peanuts", analysis of team metrics that would have taken them weeks. That is an account of speed, and of one person's job. Someone at a business event describes the other side: a big insurer is not willing to run Claude Code, so its experiment team gets separate devices on which to build software that may run internally later. Both come down to how far Claude is let into the work.
The other thing people build around is what Claude forgets between sessions. One person's whole method is a ritual: start every session with "read where we are" and end it by updating a status file in the project folder, because "Neither chat can see the other one anyway". The ritual works around a gap in what carries over from one session to the next. The memory lives in a file the person keeps rather than in Claude, which is why the same status file can be pointed at a second tool. A Hacker News listing this week offers "automatic project memory for Claude Code", aimed at the same gap the ritual fills by hand.
One person tells anyone who writes with a model a lot to take some of their own prompts and read the outputs side by side, which "tells you more than any leaderboard". That is the test one sets for a collaborator rather than a product: how the work goes.
