Search covers subjects, readings, releases, communities, measured statements, quotes as pages show them, the glossary and the method. It never searches posts: the posts behind each figure are its fixed sample, on its page.

Method

Revisions and corrections

Once published, a reading’s figures never change. When something needs to change, AIDRAN publishes a new reading and leaves the old one online, with a dated notice that says what happened.

1What never changes

A published reading is fixed. These parts of it stay exactly as they were published:

Figures
Every number on the reading page, with its state and reason
Conditions
The snapshot of coverage, settling and facts taken when the reading was made
Sample of posts
The up to 10 posts behind each number, drawn once
Permanent link
/r/ and the reading’s id: the only link a citation uses
Citation
The text to cite it by, naming its release and version

So a change never edits a reading. It adds a new one, and a notice on the old reading points to it. Nothing is taken down.

2Revisions

Definition

Revision. A new reading of the same subject and week, made with more data or a better method. It links back to the reading it supersedes, and that reading stays online.

When AIDRAN revises

  • More data: posts that weren’t available when the reading was made, such as a day that was only partly captured.
  • A better method: a new version of the methods note, when AIDRAN chooses to re-read earlier weeks with it.

A revision isn’t a fix: the earlier reading was right for what it knew. Every revision is entered in the log.

What you’ll see

  1. 1The old reading

Stays online at its own link. A dated Superseded notice at the top points to the revision.

  2. 2The revision

A new reading with its own permanent link. Its version is one higher, and it links back to the reading it replaces.

  3. 3The log

One entry below, with the date, both readings and why.

Superseded Not in this build’s data yet

A revision of this reading, made with more data or a new method version (Not decided yet), is at its permanent link (Not in this build’s data yet). The figures on this page stay as they were.

3Corrections

Definition

Correction. A fix for a mistake. It’s issued as a new reading. The original stays online, and its reading page carries a dated notice that says which figures moved, by how much, and links to the corrected reading.

A correction fixes something that was wrong in a published reading. Its notice says what moved, and by how much, not just that something did.

What you’ll see

Not in this build’s data yet These figures moved:

Read the corrected reading at its permanent link (Not in this build’s data yet).

The correction banner at the top of the original reading page. It opens by default and can be collapsed.

The original reading’s figures stay as they were, beneath the banner, so anyone who cited them can see exactly what they cited and what changed.

5How you’ll know

On the reading page
Every notice attached to a reading is shown at the top of its page, newest first, with a page history below it.
On the release page
A release lists every notice on the readings in it.
In the log
Every notice, from every release, in one list below.
In your citation
Cite the permanent link. It always leads to the reading you cited, with any notices on it.

No link counts revisions. Each reading has its own permanent link, and its version shows on the page.

6The log of notices

Every notice AIDRAN has issued, from every release. A notice is never removed.

3,805 notices, newest first. Readings replaced on the same day for the same reason carry the same notice, so each group states it once; open a group for every reading in it and the reading that replaces it.
